Some terrible news out of Madison over the weekend as the Wisconsin Badgers said goodbye to former guard Walt McGrory on Saturday.
Per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the 2017 walk-on died after a lengthy battle with cancer. He played for UW for four seasons and was part of two NCAA Tournament teams.
“More horrible news for the [men’s college basketball] community Monday,” shared Andy Katz. “May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.”

McGrory was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in 2021 and had to have part of his leg amputated earlier this year. The Minneapolis native started a GoFundMe page back in September that raised more than $136,000 in a few short months.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t able to save his life but McGrory still received a tremendous amount of support.
McGrory appeared in 37 career games for the Badgers as a contributor off the bench. By all accounts he was a great teammate and ever better person. May he rest in peace.
