The former Badgers quarterback is headed to play for a familiar face.
Former Wisconsin Badgers 2025 three-star quarterback commit Landyn Locke is headed to Sam Houston State, he announced on Monday.
By making the move, Locke will reunite with former Badgers offensive coordinator Phil Longo, who was his main recruiter at Wisconsin.
The move signifies the end of the three-star’s recruitment, which has taken quite a few turns since Locke committed to the Badgers back in June of 2023 as their first commit in the 2025 class.
The turn of events began late in the season when Longo was fired with two games left, creating a cloud of uncertainty at the quarterback position as nearly every scholarship player in the room was recruited by the offensive coordinator.
Well, the dominoes began to fall as the offseason began with Cole LaCrue, Braedyn Locke, and Tyler Van Dyke all entering the transfer portal, while the Badgers landed 2025 four-star quarterback Carter Smith, who had recently de-committed from the Michigan Wolverines.
Still, through all the movement, Landyn Locke remained committed to Wisconsin and signed with the Badgers on Early Signing Day. That was short-lived, however, as Locke requested out of his National Letter of Intent, and re-opened his recruitment.
Locke posted about visits to a few schools, including Ole Miss, but ultimately returned near home to Sam Houston State, reuniting with Longo and joining fellow Badgers quarterback Mabrey Mettauer, who transferred to the Bearkats earlier in the offseason.
At Sam Houston State, Locke could very well compete to be in the two-deep as early as next year, but it will be an uphill battle as he continues to recover from a torn ACL sustained early in his senior season.
