One of the best quarterbacks in the 2027 camped at Wisconsin earlier this month.
The Wisconsin Badgers got one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 class on campus, as Illinois native Trae Taylor camped with the team earlier this month.
Taylor, who attends Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois, has been a fast riser on the recruiting trail, and is already up to 21 offers, with Ohio State, Michigan, Ole Miss, UNC, and Miami being among the group.
Taylor was a part of a talented quarterback group that camped at Wisconsin this summer, and was the best of the bunch across all four sessions, which I got to attend.
What did he think of his performance at the camp earlier this month?
“I feel like I did really good today as far as accuracy and, you know, putting the ball where it needed to be,” Taylor shared after the camp. “I didn’t really want to prove anything. It was more so just coming out here to showcase.”
Taylor’s deep ball was especially on display, as the rising sophomore displayed great touch and accuracy during the 1-on-1 reps to receivers.
“It’s not like a like a main focus of mine,” Taylor acknowledged. “It’s just kind of easy for me. It feels like a little layup. So, I mean, it’s always kind of came natural.”
While the Illinois native has already gotten off to a fast start with his development, he’s still looking to grow, with the next step being a faster release.
“Creating energy with less movement and going forward [is a goal of mine with my release],” Taylor said. “I already have a fast release, but just getting even more faster.”
What was the ultimate reason for a player of Taylor’s stature to come out and camp at Wisconsin?
“I just want to see everything kind of one more time before I start to narrow down what I’m looking at as far as schools that have interest in me or I’m interested in. And, you know, this is a school that I’ve been to before, so I just want to come here one more time, see how the coaches really treated me and thought about me and, you know, go from there.”
The Badgers have clearly been interested in Taylor, which is why it was surprising that he didn’t walk away from camp with an offer.
The quarterback didn’t get to meet much with offensive coordinator Phil Longo on his visit, which wasn’t the most ideal situation, but is looking forward to building that relationship and looking to see how Wisconsin does this year as an offense.
As for other interest, Taylor has been around the horn this summer, with trips to West Virginia and Ohio State in late June before heading to TCU and South Carolina in July.
Already talented with a 6’2, 175-pound frame, Taylor should be one of the more coveted quarterbacks in the 2027 class down the road.
