The Badgers former starting quarterback will head elsewhere for his final season.
In a major move, Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is entering the transfer portal, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Van Dyke, a graduate transfer to Wisconsin last offseason, was lost for the season after just three games, tearing his ACL in the first quarter against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
That led to redshirt sophomore Braedyn Locke taking the reigns for the remainder of the season, leading the Badgers to a 5-7 overall record.
Coming into the offseason, there were a number of quarterback questions for the Badgers following the firing of offensive coordinator Phil Longo, who was directly involved in recruiting each of the signal-callers in the room.
However, 2025 three-star quarterback Landyn Locke stuck with his commitment and signed with the Badgers, while his older brother, Braedyn Locke, is expected to stay at Wisconsin.
Van Dyke’s future was uncertain, as head coach Luke Fickell mentioned that he would be talking to the graduate transfer soon on National Signing Day. Now, it’s become clear, as Van Dyke will look to another destination for his final season of college football.
With Van Dyke’s departure, the Badgers currently have four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for the 2025 season: Braedyn Locke, Mabrey Mettauer, Carter Smith, and Landyn Locke.
There is also a growing expectation that Wisconsin will look to the transfer portal for a quarterback, potentially rounding out the room, as that move could come whenever the Badgers look to finalize their quarterbacks coach hire.
So, the Badgers quarterback room doesn’t appear to be set just yet, but got a major domino move on Monday with Van Dyke heading to the transfer portal.
