The Badgers are losing a four-star quarterback recruit to the transfer portal.
The Wisconsin Badgers quarterback room from the 2024 season is completely gone, as true freshman Mabrey Mettauer is entering the transfer portal.
Mettauer, a four-star recruit from the Class of 2024, had been recruited to Wisconsin by offensive coordinator Phil Longo, and was seen as one of the top quarterback recruits that the program had landed in recent memory.
A Pro Style 6’4, 230-pound quarterback, Mettauer was the No. 3 quarterback to begin the season, earning significant reps from spring ball forward, as he instantly took over the third-string role.
Then, upon an injury to starter Tyler Van Dyke, Mettauer was elevated to the No. 2 role behind Braedyn Locke. He ended up playing in three games, preserving his redshirt while only coming in for a select few snaps in those contests.
Mettauer, a native of Texas, had offers from a number of top-tier programs, such as Ole Miss, Colorado, Arkansas, Miami, Florida, and LSU, which all offered the four-star quarterback coming out of high school.
With Mettauer leaving the program, Wisconsin has just three quarterbacks currently projected on their 2025 spring roster: four-star freshman Carter Smith and transfers Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O’Neil.
That likely means the Badgers will target a third quarterback in the transfer portal this offseason, revamping the room to match with a new offensive coordinator and new quarterbacks coach.
Mettauer will take four years of eligibility to his next destination.
