The Wisconsin Badgers made a splash in the spring transfer portal on Friday, landing a commitment from Missouri State tight end Lance Mason.
Mason was on a visit to Wisconsin earlier this week, and had previously scheduled visits to Cal and Oklahoma as well, but has now committed to the Badgers.
The tight end broke out for Missouri State as a junior, catching 34 passes for 590 yards and six touchdowns in 2024.
That production earned Mason the top-pass catching grade among FCS tight ends, according to PFF, and he’ll now spend his final year of eligibility with the Badgers.
Wisconsin had a need for a tight end in the spring transfer portal after losing Ball State transfer Tanner Koziol, who had joined the program during the winter portal.
Now, Mason will compete in a tight end room currently headlined by junior Tucker Ashcraft, providing more depth and a potential starter to the room.
Tight ends are more important for the Badgers this season under new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, who regularly has used multi tight end sets during the spring.
Mason should figure in the mix at the position when he arrives to Madison, giving the Badgers a boost at a position where they haven’t gotten much production in recent years.
