The Badgers were in the running for a transfer portal offensive tackle, who is heading elsewhere.
The Wisconsin Badgers have been active early in the spring transfer portal window, showing interest in several players at positions of need.
One of those players was South Dakota offensive tackle Joe Cotton, who had scheduled visits to Wisconsin and Cincinnati after entering the transfer portal.
Since entering the portal, Cotton, considered the top tackle in the portal, was one of the most popular players available, garnering interest from Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Penn State, Ole Miss, USC, Michigan, and Missouri, among others.
However, Cotton is heading elsewhere, as he committed to Cincinnati after his visit there, leaving the Badgers without their offensive tackle target.
The Badgers are in the market for an offensive tackle after losing left tackle Kevin Heywood for the season to a torn ACL during spring ball. Heywood was expected to step in and take over for longtime starter Jack Nelson, but he will have to wait one more year for that opportunity.
Wisconsin has been playing swing tackle Leyton Nelson with the top offense since the injury. Nelson transferred in from Vanderbilt last season and missed the entire year due to injury.
