One of Wisconsin’s transfers is heading back to a familiar place.
It’s been a week since the transfer portal opened, and the Wisconsin Badgers have been busy, with three players already announcing their departures: forward Chris Hodges and point guards Daniel Freitag and Camren Hunter.
One of them has already found a new home just days after entering the portal, as Hunter is returning to a familiar place for his next destination, heading back to play for Central Arkansas.
Hunter had spent his freshman and sophomore years at Central Arkansas, starting all 60 games, before suffering an injury during his junior year that prompted him to redshirt. He then transferred to Wisconsin for the 2024-25 season, but that move didn’t work out, as Hunter struggled to crack the rotation, seeing action in just 11 games.
Now, he’s going back to a familiar place where he averaged 16.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists as a sophomore with the chance to be a starter once again for his senior year.
The Badgers are going through a complete overhaul at point guard, as Hunter and Daniel Freitag both entered the transfer portal, while senior Kamari McGee is out of eligibility.
As a result, the team is exploring all avenues in the transfer portal, where they’ll likely find a starter to work opposite rising star John Blackwell, with the potential of nabbing another guard as well to finish out the rotation.
Nonetheless, it’s been a busy start to the transfer portal for the Badgers, with transfers heading out of the program and coming in on visits already.
