The Badgers are getting one of the hottest players in the transfer portal on campus.
The Wisconsin Badgers hosted Division 3 Bethel College transfer safety Matt Jung on an official visit on Wednesday after extending the Neenah native a scholarship on Tuesday, marking a quick turnaround for a recent portal target.
Jung, a sophomore, has quickly gained traction after entering the transfer portal, earning offers from the Iowa Hawkeyes, Washington State Cougars, and Iowa State Cyclones, among others, but the Badgers especially hit home, as the safety is a Wisconsin native.
In 2024, the safety was ultra-productive for Bethel, racking up 109 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, nine interceptions, 11 pass breakups, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Now, with two years of eligibility left, Jung is looking for his next destination, receiving a ton of Power 4 interest across the board. The 6’3, 230-pound safety has a busy group of visits scheduled this week, but could be a very good target for the Badgers as they look for more help in the secondary.
Wisconsin did land a commitment from Richmond safety Matthew Traynor, but they have low numbers at safety, with Preston Zachman, Austin Brown, and Raphael Dunn being the lone returners for the 2025 season.
The Badgers have gotten a number of defensive commitments thus far in the transfer portal, landing three defensive linemen, an outside linebacker, an inside linebacker, and a safety. Jung could be next as he wraps up his visits this weekend before potentially making a decision on his commitment.
