Quarterback Billy Edwards won’t be able to get reps with his top wide receiver this spring.
The Wisconsin Badgers will be without star Trech Kekahuna for at least the next month as the slot receiver will miss the remainder of spring ball with a lower-body injury, per a team spokesperson.
He is expected to be available for the start of fall camp.
Kekahuna, a redshirt sophomore in 2025, was seen in a boot on Tuesday at Wisconsin’s third spring practice. He was on the field for Wisconsin during their first practice last Thursday and was seen working off to the side on Saturday.
The wideout was a key returner for the Badgers this offseason amid an overhaul both in and out of the program, and is expected to take over the lead slot receiver role in 2025.
That path didn’t come without its bumps though, as Kekahuna initially entered the transfer portal in the offseason before withdrawing his name and returning to Wisconsin.
As a result, top slot wideout Will Pauling left via the transfer portal, landing with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for his final year of eligibility, reuniting with former wide receivers coach Mike Brown.
Later in the offseason, now quarterbacks coach Kenny Guiton revealed that the Badgers essentially had to choose between Pauling and Kekahuna, given the struggle to get both on the field at the same position. Wisconsin ultimately pushed for the latter, keeping one of their young emerging stars for a crucial 2025 season.
Kekahuna was expected to be a lead receiver for new quarterback Billy Edwards, who transferred in from the Maryland Terrapins. But, that camaraderie will have to be built more in fall camp, as the Badgers wideout will be out for the remainder of the spring.
