The transfer portal has started for the Badgers.
The transfer portal has begun to kick in for the Wisconsin Badgers, who saw their first two departures of the offseason: point guards Camren Hunter and Daniel Freitag.
Hunter was an expected departure after his lone year in Madison was derailed by injuries and a slow start, as he struggled to adjust to the Big Ten. With the move, Wisconsin cleared up an extra scholarship for the upcoming season, where they’re expected to be active in the transfer portal.
Then came the departure of Freitag, who was one of the most heralded recruits in Wisconsin history. A freshman in 2024, Freitag never got a major opportunity, playing minimal minutes in just 14 games of action. Seeing a tough path for playing time in 2025, he elected to move on after just one season.
Wisconsin has started looking into the transfer portal for potential additions. One top target is San Diego State transfer guard Nick Boyd, who had a visit in Madison late last week. Others, including Portland transfer center Austin Rapp, are starting to materialize as targets as well.
Looking elsewhere, the Badgers football team has begun spring ball, with practices resuming on Tuesday after spring break. Wisconsin had four practices prior to the break, with three being open to the media.
Additionally, Wisconsin will introduce newly-hired women’s basketball head coach Robin Pingeton on Tuesday in a press conference setting.
Every week, I’m looking to do an AMA session, where everyone can ask whatever questions they have about the Badgers, regardless of the sport, in the comments, and I’ll answer each and every one over the next 24 hours.
