The Wisconsin Badgers added to their quarterback room on Wednesday with the addition of Southern Illinois graduate transfer Hunter Simmons, he announced.

A 6’3, 215-pound quarterback, Simmons spent the last four seasons at Southern Illinois, throwing for 852 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.
He follows former Southern Illinois offensive coordinator Blake Rolan in Madison. Rolan was hired as an assistant wide receivers coach this offseason by head coach Luke Fickell.
The Badgers entered spring ball with a brand new quarterback room, replacing Tyler Van Dyke, Braedyn Locke, and Mabrey Mettauer with Billy Edwards, Danny O’Neil, and Carter Smith.
Simmons has some dual-threat ability, as seen by his six-carry, 71-yard, and one-touchdown performance against Illinois State this season. That should fit well in offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes’s offense.
He now adds depth to the room and could compete with Danny O’Neil to be the No. 2 quarterback, with the latter likely having the edge to begin.
