The Badgers could be getting reinforcements at cornerback soon.
The Wisconsin Badgers have faced a mass exodus in their secondary this offseason, with star freshman cornerback Xavier Lucas being the latest to announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Thursday.
As a result, eight defensive backs have entered the transfer portal, while another three are seniors and will be moving forward, leaving a big void at the position.
With the number of outgoing players, the Badgers return just three cornerbacks to the fold: Ricardo Hallman and freshmen Jay Harper and Omillio Agard. So, there’s a clear need for a corner in the transfer portal, and visits are starting to come together.
The Badgers hosted Grand Valley State senior cornerback Devin Pringle on an official visit earlier in the week. Now, they’re set to host Marian transfer cornerback Dwight Lewis III on an official visit, according to multiple reports.
A redshirt junior this past season, Lewis had four interceptions, two pass breakups, 25 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. That followed a 2023 season where the cornerback had 33 tackles, six pass breakups, and three interceptions.
The Badgers need a starting boundary cornerback after losing Lucas, and Lewis can play the boundary, while Pringle seems a better fit for the other two cornerback spots.
But, it’s likely that multiple corners will be added via the transfer portal to boost the numbers in the room, as Wisconsin had double-digit scholarship defensive backs on the roster last year.
Can the Badgers continue their hot streak in the transfer portal with some cornerbacks?
