Tight end remains a priority in the spring transfer portal for Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Badgers are hosting another transfer portal tight end on a visit, bringing in Rice’s Boden Groen, according to his agent Evan Potuba, via 247Sports.
A three-year tight end at Rice, Groen caught 12 passes for 78 yards in 2024 in four games before entering the transfer portal. He had a better year in 2023, catching 39 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns for the Owls.
Groen should have two years of eligibility at his next destination, as he qualifies for a redshirt with four games played in 2024.
The Badgers are in need of a tight end after losing Tanner Koziol to the transfer portal earlier this month. Koziol was one of Wisconsin’s biggest additions in the winter from Ball State, but didn’t mesh well with the culture and eventually left the team during spring ball before re-entering the transfer portal.
Since Koziol’s departure, Tucker Ashcraft has taken the reins at tight end, while Jackson Acker, Grant Stec, and J.T. Seagraves have all seen playing time with the top offense as well this offseason.
Wisconsin is heading into a new offensive scheme in 2025 under new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes that highlights the tight end position more with heavier personnel, making depth key heading into the fall.
