One key transfer hasn’t been practicing for some time for Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Badgers are midway through spring ball, finishing up their seventh practice of 15 on Tuesday.
As the Badgers get deeper into the spring, injuries are starting to pile up more and more. Among the group? Ball State transfer tight end Tanner Koziol.
Heading into the spring, Koziol was one of the players to watch, as the tight end was a heralded transfer in the offseason, catching 94 passes for 839 yards and six touchdowns.
But, the senior has been used sparingly in the spring, dealing with injuries, as Tucker Ashcraft has been the No. 1 tight end in the room so far.
“Tanner [has been] dinged up and is going through a few things right now, so I don’t know what’s exactly going on,” Fickell said about Koziol on Tuesday.
Koziol has suited up in uniform, but hasn’t been out there for team drills, leading Ashcraft to top the group, while J.T. Seagraves and Grant Stec are getting more run with the first and second-team offenses.
Behind them, Jackson Acker has seen some run as a blocker as well, as Wisconsin goes into heavier packages under offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, frequently installing with two tight end sets so far.
Koziol would be a nice addition when back, as his receiving ability should provide quarterback Billy Edwards with a security blanket. But, as of now, the transfer hasn’t been able to integrate himself on the field.
