The Badgers head coach was one of a few to receive an extension on Wednesday.
The Wisconsin Badgers have extended head coach Luke Fickell’s seven-year contract through 2032, they announced on Wednesday.
Fickell’s contract was one of four head coaches that was extended on Wednesday by the UW Athletic Board. Here is the official statement from the Badgers:
“The UW Athletic Board met Wednesday afternoon and approved the following recommendations of the UW Department of Athletics regarding contracts for four sports head coaches:
- Football coach Luke Fickell’s seven-year agreement was extended through March 31, 2032.
- Volleyball coach Kelly Sheffield’s five-year agreement was extended through January 31, 2030.
- Women’s soccer coach Paula Wilkins’ five-year agreement was extended through January 31, 2030.
- Men’s soccer coach Neil Jones’ five-year agreement was extended through January 31, 2030.
Fickell initially signed a seven-year deal with the Badgers back in November of 2022 that was worth around $54.6 million with 80 percent of the contract guaranteed.
This extension is seemingly part of a standard one-year extension approved by the UW Athletic Board for each of their head coaches at the conclusion of the season, hence the four extensions announced on Wednesday.
Fickell is now set to enter Year 3 of his contract in need of a turnaround soon as the program has disappointed over the first two seasons of his tenure with 7-6 and 5-7 finishes. Wisconsin’s schedule doesn’t get any easier, however, in 2025, as the Badgers are set to play Alabama, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, Oregon, Indiana, and Illinois this season.
