The Badgers are coming off a 16-13 loss to the No. 1 Oregon Ducks where they competed hard for 60 minutes, staying in a one-score game till the clock hit zero, but ultimately fell short in a big game yet again.
That led to the firing of offensive coordinator Phil Longo on Sunday, as head coach Luke Fickell moved in a different direction after just 23 games, leading Wisconsin to go with a new play-caller needing at least one win in their next two games to become bowl-eligible.
First, they’ll play the Nebraska Cornhuskers for the Freedom Trophy on Saturday, looking to extend their winning streak in the series to 11 games and clinch that bowl eligibility.
Wisconsin is currently seen as 2.5-point underdogs in that one, as it’ll be a battle between teams who are currently on significant slides following strong starts to the season.
If they’re unable to win that one, then the final game of the season becomes that much more important against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, as Wisconsin would have a chance to potentially claim the Axe Trophy and get their bowl game.
