The Badgers aren’t done adding to their coaching staff for the upcoming season.
The Wisconsin Badgers announced the hiring of Michael Cibene as their assistant special teams coordinator earlier this week, adding another assistant to their 2025 coaching staff.
Cibene, a former safety for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2013-16, most recently was at Florida Atlantic, where he was a defensive analyst in 2023 before earning a promotion to be their edge coach in 2024.
Cibene started off his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Grand Valley State under Matt Mitchell, who is the current outside linebackers coach at Wisconsin.
There, he worked directly with the linebackers and defensive backs for two years before transitioning to a defensive assistant at Ohio State for two seasons.
Cibene then moved on to Boston College to serve as a graduate assistant working with the defensive line during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, finally ending up at FAU for the past two years.
Wisconsin has struggled in the special teams department under the tenure of head coach Luke Fickell, seeing inconsistencies in all phases of the game, be it kicking, punting, or returning over the past few seasons.
The Badgers have made a number of additions to their coaching staff this offseason, prioritizing valuable experience at non-Power 5 schools, and Cibene is the latest to join the group.
He’ll replace Eric Raisbeck, who was the assistant special teams coordinator under Matt Mitchell in 2024. Raisbeck isn’t listed as an assistant for the Badgers currently and doesn’t appear to be with the program anymore.
