The Golden Eagles attempted the final eight shots of the day on Sunday, but lost 1-0 to Creighton
Here’s a weird quirk of a Sunday afternoon women’s soccer match: Creighton and Marquette both took exactly eight shots in Creighton’s 1-0 defeat of Marquette. That’s not the quirk. The quirk is that both teams lined up all of their shots in a row. Creighton took the first eight shots of the match, getting through all of them before 40 full minutes were played. Marquette’s first shot of the match came in the final minute of the first half, and the Golden Eagles outshot the Bluejays 7-0 after intermission.
Weird!
Only one shot of the entire day went past a netminder, and that was from Creighton’s Anna Bragg in the 31st minute. A poorly timed Marquette turnover led to a Mallory Connealy pass to Bragg who just lofted a shot where keeper Elise Krone couldn’t do a dang thing about it.
So, from a certain point of view, holding the Bluejays without a shot in the second half is good news. The bad news is that this was Marquette’s only shot on goal of the entire match.

And so the Golden Eagles are 3-7-2 on the year and 0-2-0 in Big East play with nary a goal scored against a league opponent yet. Seemed like the 4-3-1 Bluejays might have been a good spot to find a win, but nope.
Up Next: Marquette will try their hand at winning on the road for the next two matches. They’ll be in New York to face St. John’s on Thursday before returning to the Midwest to face DePaul on Sunday. Feels like an unnecessary amount of travel given that MU will also visit Seton Hall for the regular season finale, but I’m not in charge of these things. The Red Storm are winless in Big East action after going to a 2-2 draw with Seton Hall on Sunday, while the Blue Demons slipped to 0-1-1 in league play after a scoreless draw at home against Butler back on Thursday.
