The Golden Eagles’ offense comes up short yet once again with time ticking down on their season.
Maybe it’s not the worst performance of the season by Marquette women’s soccer, specifically on the offensive end, but it’s one that’s probably going to sting pretty badly as the season winds towards its conclusion. On Thursday night in the Valley, Marquette let in what turned into the game winner in a 3-0 loss to Villanova in the 29th minute, and then got outshot 8-5 for the rest of the match.
Five shots in over an hour’s worth of soccer, on the way to a 13-7 shot disparity overall at the end of a full 90 minutes.
That’s not enough. I get it’s a weird sport and physics is a harsh mistress sometimes and so on, but you gotta do better than five shots in over an hour after you trail 1-0.
Wanna look at VU’s goals to see if they’re particularly frustrating?
The game winner is something of a “yes, well, things happen” goal but also Marquette has to be better about putting a foot on a ball after a corner kick.

The second goal came off of one of Chloe Olson’s four saves on the night, but she didn’t paddle it away from the front of the net after a one-on-one chance or get a chance to wrap it up, and shoooop, the rebound’s gently rolling into the net.

The third goal, coming in the 76th minute, falls into the category of “hey, what are we doing out here?” lackluster defending.
