Well, this could be ugly.
Look, I don’t have to pretend this is going to go well.
Marquette women’s soccer is 1-4-1 on the year and is getting more than doubled up in shots, 89-44, across their six matches. They’ve scored just three goals all year, and only one before the clock read 88:00.
Sunday afternoon’s opponent is ranked in the top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches top 25 poll. Notre Dame is outshooting opponents just ever so slightly, 16.3 to 13 on a per match basis, but they haven’t allowed a goal since their opener, a 2-1 loss to then-#13 Michigan State.
Marquette has not played like something you would immediately identify as a good soccer team this season. Notre Dame, on the other hand, has a win over a ranked TCU team and beat fellow Big East competitor Butler on the road back on September 1.
It’s probably not going to go well, and I don’t have to pretend to try to convince you of otherwise.
