The Golden Eagles will head to Iowa to face #4 seeded Drake in the first round.
There’s going to be more Marquette women’s basketball this season!
On Sunday night, after the NCAA announced the bracket for the women’s basketball national championship tournament on ESPN, they fired off the bracket for the WBIT. As it turns out, there was a streaming broadcast to announce the field, and let me tell you what: Would have been nice to put that on your informational page that I’ve been checking in on to help track whether or not MU was going to make it in.
ANYWAY
Marquette is in the 2025 WBIT. They don’t have a seed number as the NCAA only seeded the 1 through 4 seeds in each of the bracket quadrants. As an unseeded team, Marquette won’t be hosting in the first round, and instead, they will be heading out to Iowa to face #4 seed Drake. That game is scheduled for Thursday, March 20th, and tip time is still up in the air right now. ESPN+ will have the streaming broadcast, so at least that’s a known deal.
Drake went 22-11 this season with a 15-5 mark in Missouri Valley Conference action. They did take an 80-72 loss at Creighton back in early November to give you an idea as to how good the Bulldogs might be. Drake is sitting at #68 in the NET as of Selection Sunday, and they’re at #75 in the BartTorvik.com rankings. Since Marquette is at #63 and #55 respectively, that would seem to favor the Golden Eagles if this game were on a neutral court.
Marquette is one of three Big East teams in the WBIT after UConn and Creighton earned spots in the NCAA field of 68. Seton Hall is a #3 seed with a first round home game against Quinnipiac, while #4 Villanova will welcome Boston College to the Main Line. The first round games for the Pirates and the Wildcats will also be on March 20th, and ESPN+ will have the broadcasts for their games, too.
Keep your eyes and ears open on that start time, and we’ll get to a preview in a day or two……
