The gap between the Golden Eagles and the Huskies is smaller than the one between the Golden Eagles and the Musketeers, if you can believe that.
I’m not going to spend a lot of time here probing the details of Marquette women’s basketball’s final two regular season games. This is the only information you need to know:
at Xavier: 67-38 victory
at home vs UConn: 77-45 loss
Got it?
I do want to point this out. There’s an argument that MU is closer to UConn than Xavier is to Marquette.

UConn is the best team in the country according to the computers even if they’re #5 in the AP poll right now. Marquette is merely an “Obviously Not An NCAA Tournament Team, Mostly Because Of Very Early Bad Losses” team. Xavier is tragicomically awful.
If the two home teams in Marquette’s final two regular season games play the way you would expect home teams to play, then the home teams win.
Oh, and speaking of home teams? Yeah, it’s Senior Day for Paige Bueckers on Sunday. Or, rather, I presume it is. She lost the 22-23 season to injury, so she does have one bonus season of eligibility remaining officially, but the plan always was for this to be it.
REMINDER: Marquette’s home contests are streamed nearly exclusively on FloSports, and the same goes for almost all Big East home games and almost all league schedule contests. If you are paying full price for FloSports at $30 a month, you are doing it wrong. Please use this link to pay $20 via the new-ish FloCollege offering.

Marquette is 24-7 all time against Xavier. The series started back in 1985 and was pretty even through the first nine encounters. The Musketeers won three of the first five meetings between the two teams once XU joined the Big East, but the Golden Eagles have now won 17 straight in the series.

Marquette is 1-21 all time against Connecticut. The Golden Eagles picked up their only win in the series during the 2023 regular season, downing #4 UConn at the McGuire Center. The Huskies have won all five meetings since then, including putting Megan Duffy at the helm of the single worst offensive performance in the history of MU women’s hoops in last year’s Big East tournament semifinals. That happened. Never forget.
