Arguably, it hurt them, which seems weird.
Well, it’s official: My Dayton theory for Marquette volleyball has fallen apart.
My theory was that the AVCA top 25 voters were carrying Marquette along with the Flyers as Dayton continues to have only a neutral site loss to MU as their only loss of the season. This week, UD is up to #19 in the new top 25 rankings, one spot better than last week.
However, Marquette lost points from last week, falling from 34 to just 22 in the new set of voting. This, after Marquette went 4-0 in the past week and extended their overall winning streak to nine straight matches. Seems rude, voters!
At least MU’s RPI improved to #26 in the country.
Back to the top 25!
The top six remains unchanged, and the same goes for the order of the best teams that Marquette has played this season: #1 Pitt, #5 Stanford, and #6 Creighton. Wisconsin moves up to #7 from #8 a week ago, and Kansas remains one spot behind UW as they go from #9 to #8. Shouts to new #9 Texas for falling and making it possible for the Golden Eagles to have played five teams in the top eight.
Wheeeeeeee.
Dayton is the only other team on the Marquette schedule that is either in the rankings or earning votes, so that’s all we’ve got to talk about today.
Marquette returns to action this Friday night when they return to the McGuire Center to host Villanova. First serve on that one is set for 7pm Central, and Sunday’s home match against St. John’s will get going at 1pm.
