Last week: 22 points worth of votes for Marquette volleyball in the AVCA top 25 poll.
This week: 23 points worth worth of votes for Marquette volleyball in the AVCA top 25 poll.
Yee-haw, and so on.
Marquette is tied with Arkansas for the unofficial #29 ranking in the poll. Both teams are well off the pace of being in the top 25, as North Carolina has the last officially ranked spot with 116 points.
The top four spots in the AVCA top 25 have not changed, so Pitt remains the top ranked team in the country as well as the best team on Marquette’s schedule this season. The Panthers picked up 49 of the first place votes with the rest going to Nebraska (11) and Penn State (1).
The poll changes up from last week starting at the #5 spot, with Creighton moving up one spot to enter the top five. It’s the highest ever ranking for the Bluejays, and well, would you look at that, it comes right before they come to Milwaukee next Sunday afternoon. Creighton flip-flopped spots with fellow Marquette opponent Stanford, which now resides at #6. The next two teams in the rankings are also on Marquette’s schedule, as Wisconsin and Kansas hold onto their #7 and #8 rankings from last week respectively.
As always, the only other team on the schedule that’s even earning votes this week is Dayton. Marquette remains the only team to have beaten the Flyers this season, and they have held onto their #19 ranking for another week.
Marquette returns to action on Wednesday when they head down to Indianapolis to visit Butler. First serve there is set for 6pm Central, and FloSports will have the broadcast. After that, MU returns home to face the #5 ranked Bluejays on Sunday. That match has a 2pm Central start and either FS1 or FS2 will pick up the broadcast.
