The Golden Eagles didn’t get a shot off at all until more than 68 minutes had gone by.
Through two matches of the 2024 season, Marquette women’s soccer managed just one goal, and that one came on a corner kick with just scant seconds left in what turned into their 1-1 draw with Kansas City. Generating offense was going to be a big thing for them going forward this season……

Getting outshot 12-0 in the first half and 18-3 for the full match is a different thing, one that does not bode particularly well for the development of MU’s offense in Chris Allen’s first season as head coach. Both of Northwestern’s goals came in the first half. Kennedy Roesch scored on NU’s sixth shot of the match for what became the game winner, and the fact that it came in the 13th minute of the match tells you an awful lot about how the field was tilted in the early going. The second goal came on a penalty kick off a foul assessed on Mia Haertle in the 39th minute, and I think it’s worth noting that it was the second time in the first five halves of the season that the Golden Eagles had a penalty kick called against them. Keeper Elise Krone stopped the first one, which came against Colorado in the opener, but not so much in the luck department for her this time around.
Up Next: Marquette will be back out on the road on Sunday when they visit Western Michigan. The Broncos are 1-0-1 on the year after stomping out Northern Kentucky in their opener and going to a 1-1 draw with #24 Iowa on Thursday afternoon.
