It is the fifth title in the last nine conference tournaments for the Golden Eagles!
Powered by a final round 67 from Patrick Adler, YOUR Marquette Golden Eagles are the 2025 Big East men’s golf champions!
This is Marquette’s sixth Big East championship and the fifth in the nine tournaments held since 2015. It is the team’s first league title since 2023, and the first without the individual player winner since 2019.
The Golden Eagles finished at 17 under par for the three round tournament, besting second place Xavier by 11 strokes. Marquette and Xavier are the only two teams in the 10 team field that finished below par, with Creighton coming in third at three over. Marquette won the title not by having the best individual player — that was UConn’s Alex Heard who finished at -11 — but by overall team success. In college golf, you have five competitors playing, but only your four best scores count. In this case, Vinny Cervantes and Mason Schmidtke finished tied for that fifth and final score, but both of them tied for 13th place overall in the tournament. You’re going to win a lot of golf tournaments when all five of your players are in the top 15, I’ll tell you that much.
Johan Widal and Patrick Adler were Marquette’s best finishers, coming in tied for fourth at -3. Max Lyons ended up one stroke behind them at -2 and tied for seventh place.
The Big East championship entitles Marquette to an automatic berth in the NCAA Regional round. The Golden Eagles will learn their destination on Wednesday, April 30th, when Golf Channel airs the selection show live at Noon Central.
