The Golden Eagles will be off until Friday as they get one of two byes to the semifinals.
The 2024 regular season wrapped up for Big East volleyball on Sunday, and all six spots in the conference tournament are officially locked in place!
Creighton is the outright regular season champion and #1 seed (and tournament host) with a league record of 18-0. Marquette qualified for the second bye to the semifinals by finishing 16-2 in the regular season with their only two losses coming when they faced the Bluejays.
The other four teams that qualified will have to compete against each other in the first round. UConn earned the #3 seed with a record of 12-6 against league opponents this season, and it just so happens that the Huskies ended up on the part of the cycle where they only played Marquette and Creighton once this season. St. John’s and DePaul tied for fourth place in the conference this season with a record of 10-8 after the Blue Demons lost to Marquette on the final day of the regular season. The two teams split their regular season series and both went 0-2 against Creighton and Marquette, and so the Blue Demons get to be the #4 seed ahead of St. John’s at #5 because DePaul beat UConn twice while the Red Storm went 0-2 against the Huskies. That leaves 9-9 Villanova as the sixth and final team in the field. They’re backing into the tournament, and not just because of their 3-0 loss to UConn — hey, look, they have to play again! — in the regular season finale. The Wildcats went 5-9 in Big East contests after starting off 4-0.
The First Round and Semifinals will be broadcast on FloSports on Wednesday and Friday respectively, while Saturday’s championship match will be carried by FS2.
