It’s the first day of the season! It’s the first game of the season! It’s not on TV!
THE VITALS: #18 Marquette Golden Eagles (0-0) vs Stony Brook Seawolves (0-0)
THE DATE: Monday, November 4, 2024
THE TIME: 7:30pm Central
THE LOCATION: Fiserv Forum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
THE TELEVISION: None.
WAIT, WHAT? THE GAME’S NOT ON TV? I warned you this was happening. Twice.
IS IT ON TV OR NOT? Not from beginning to end, no. This is the opening night of the season and there are eight Big East teams playing. Fox Sports doesn’t have the ability to put all them on TV without resorting to 2pm starts or something like that, so we are getting FS1 Whip-Around coverage as they bop from game to game all night long. MU/SBU is the final game of the night to start, so it stands to reason you’ll get to see the end uninterrupted.
SO HOW DO I WATCH THE WHOLE GAME IF I DON’T LIVE IN MILWAUKEE AND CAN’T GO TO THE GAME? FoxSports.com/live or the Fox Sports app will have individual feeds for each game, and so you can get all the Jeff Levering and Terrence Ogelsby calling the action that you can handle.
THE RADIO: 94.5 ESPN Milwaukee, available online at Wisconsin On Demand or The Varsity Network.
THE LIVE STATS: Sidearm Stats
THE LINE: Marquette -22 from our friends at Draft Kings.
THE PROJECTION: KenPom.com gives Marquette a 98% chance of victory, with a predicted score of 84-62.
THE EXCITEMENT LEVEL: KenPom.com gives this game a Thrill Score of 12.2, making it the 82nd most potentially exciting game out of the the 116 all-Division 1 games scheduled for the day. #1? Baylor at Gonzaga.
MARQUETTE PROBABLE LINEUP
(w/last year’s stats)
- Stevie Mitchell (8.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.9 spg)
- Kam Jones (17.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.1 spg)
- Chase Ross (6.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.3 spg)
- David Joplin (10.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg)
- Ben Gold (5.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg)
MARQUETTE INJURY UPDATE: Junior guard Sean Jones remains out while recovering from ACL surgery in January. Freshman forward Damarius Owens is likely out for the opener after suffering a foot injury in Marquette’s super duper ultra top secret scrimmage with Oklahoma.
AS FOR STONY BROOK: They don’t return enough guys for me to hazard a guess as to who is going to be in the starting lineup for them. I presume Andre Snoddy (5.0 points, 7.2 rebounds) is on that list after starting 24 times in 24 appearances last season, while grad transfer Joe Octave (14.6 points, 6.0 rebounds for Holy Cross) is the only SBU player to earn any preseason honors/attention from the CAA.
