Luke Stell is the new assistant coach with Chelsea Davis taking the head coaching job at Carthage College.
Chris Allen’s coaching staff continues to evolve for his second season on the Marquette women’s soccer sideline.
Back in January, the Golden Eagles added former Baylor keeper Jennifer Wandt to the staff as an assistant coach. Wandt is no longer the newest addition to the team, as Allen announced the addition of Luke Stell as an assistant coach on Thursday. Wandt also picked up the additional title of recruiting coordinator.
These last two moves were prompted by MU assistant Chelsea Davis taking the head coaching job at Carthage College down in Kenosha. That was made public back on January 24th, so there’s a little bit of a quick turnaround to the hire of Stell here. It’s also a little bit surprising that it took Carthage from late November to late January to make the hire to replace outgoing coach Ian Wilson, but then again, it took nearly a month after the season ended for Wilson to resign. Things got weird, I guess.
ANYWAY
Here’s what Allen said about Stell in the press release:
“We are very excited Luke is joining the Marquette soccer family,” Allen said. ”Luke’s experience developing players and teams as a college assistant, club coach and high school coach will be incredibly beneficial for both players and coaches.
“Luke’s tireless work ethic, in conjunction with his passion for development through analytics, video breakdown, and scouting preparation will continue to drive our program forward,” Allen added. ”We are pumped to have Luke as a part of the staff.”
Stell has been around the Milwaukee and Chicago soccer landscape for a minute, including graduating from Trinity International University in 2020. He’s worked with FC United Illinois, Chicago RUSH Soccer Club, Adlai Stevenson High School, Carroll University men’s soccer, and FC Wisconsin Nationals, and he spent the 2024 season as a volunteer assistant coach with UW-Parkside.
Marquette went 6-11-3 in Allen’s first season in charge. It doesn’t sound great, and if we’re being honest, it wasn’t great, but that is a one win improvement from Frank Pelaez’s final season in charge. Little victories. We’ll have to wait and see how the new voices on the sideline affect Marquette’s results when we get to August.
