The Golden Eagles made an impact right out of the gate in 2025.
We don’t have to spend a lot of time figuring out what happened in the season opener for Marquette women’s lacrosse. It’s really quite simple:
Marquette scored 33 seconds into Wednesday afternoon’s road game against Central Michigan and never looked back. It was 4-0 after five minutes, 6-0 after 10, and 8-0 at the end of the first quarter. Central Michigan’s first shot of the game didn’t come until the 7:45 mark of the first period, and MU was up 5-0 by the time that happened.
It was 11-0 Marquette before Central Michigan put a shot past MU keeper Brynna Nixon, and the rest of it kind of went like that. 12-2 at the half, 15-3 after three quarters, 17-5 at the final horn.
Just ripped right through them.
Meg Bireley was the first goal scorer of the year for Marquette, and she finished the game with four goals as she continues her quest to take down the program’s career records for points and goals. Bireley had to share high point marks for the day as both Tess Osburn and Isabelle Casucci put up three goals and an assist to get to four points in snowy Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Hanna Bodner also got to a hat trick in this one, while Lauren Grady and freshman Tessa Boehm led Marquette with two assists.
Boehm was one of two freshmen in the starting lineup here, as Addyson Graham got the nod on the defensive end of the field. The MU debut parade was joined by redshirt freshman Riley Leversedge and true freshman Mckenna Farrell.
Nixon made the start in net for Marquette here, which gives us a peek as to which way head coach Meredith Black is going to go this season. She made three saves in the first half before giving way to Mikayla Yang with a 12-2 lead at intermission.
Somehow, they trimmed the highlights of this game down to just 1:19. Check them out, courtesy of GoMarquette.com and CMUChippewas.com. It’s worth watching just to see the snow suddenly really start piling up towards the end of the video.
Up Next: Marquette puts their undefeated 1-0 record on the line when they return to Valley Fields on Monday, February 17th for the home opener. That will be against Louisville, and first draw on FloSports is set for Noon Central…. for some reason. The Cardinals moved to 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon with an 11-9 win over Cincinnati, which just happens to be MU’s next opponent after UL. Louisville will visit Ohio State on Saturday before coming up to Milwaukee.
