A rare cutdown list for a women’s basketball prospect contains good news for the Golden Eagles.
You know what we don’t get a lot around these parts? Women’s basketball recruits making a cutdown list. That should happen more. Women’s basketball deserves just as much attention as men’s basketball, although perhaps our problem is the attention given to the two high school versions of the sport and thus the various players in said sports.
ANYWAY
We’re here today, because Class of 2025 prospect Alisha Peavy has included YOUR Marquette Golden Eagles in her top six schools. The Golden Eagles are joined by noted Big East rival Georgetown along with, in alphabetical order, Davidson, Rice, Tulsa, and UNLV.
I want to thank all the coaches who have recruited me thus far in my journey, I’m grateful for the relationships I’ve been able to build and beyond blessed to have been given these opportunities! After careful consideration, I have decided on my top 6 schools! pic.twitter.com/zykme2isVQ

Peavy’s own Twitter bio lists her as a 6’2” forward in the Class of 2025. She attends Pieper High School, which as it turns out is not named for Marquette sharpshooter Anthony Pieper, but it is located on the northern edge of the San Antonio metro area. Interestingly, officially, PHS is addressed in San Antonio (at least according to Google Maps) even though it’s over 20 miles away from the Alamo.
Scrolling back through Peavy’s Twitter, I can’t seem to find a post that says she actually has an offer from Marquette at this point, which is important given Cara Consuegra has only been on the job since the spring. In fact, there’s this post from Texas U, Peavy’s club program, from mid-July that lists a metric ton of offers for Peavy and a teammate, and Marquette is definitely not on it. Georgetown made their offer in mid-July, and Seton Hall offered Peavy a scholarship in late July, so there’s that. Posting isn’t everything, but it’s interesting to note at this point if in fact Consuegra hasn’t officially made an offer yet and the Golden Eagles are still in the top six.
Max Preps comes through for us, as there’s sophomore and junior year stats to talk about here. As a sophomore, Peavy averaged 13.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. She was pretty consistent going through to her junior year, as those numbers turned into 13.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 3.0 steals, and 1.2 blocks. Peavy has shown growth as a long range shooter, increasing her conversion rate to 27% as a junior. Only 67 of her 293 attempts this past season came from behind the arc, so it hasn’t been a focal point of her game to say the least. Pieper went 17-19 in Peavy’s sophomore year and then 27-7 last season.
How about a 90 second highlight reel from May 2023?
How about three minutes of highlights from August 2023?
Nothing I can do about the portrait mode of the video, other than quietly shake my head.
And now, the scholarship chart.
Cara Consuegra just picked up her first Class of 2025 commitment earlier this week when 6’1” guard Kameron Herring made her pledge. Officially, Marquette has four scholarship spots projected as available for the Class of 2025…. but that’s also for the 2025-26 school year. As you can see from the chart, there are no names in green for 2024-25, which means no freshmen. I’m not sure how Consuegra wants to address that roster imbalance, but it wouldn’t be the worst idea to be on the look out for a rising sophomore looking for a new home next offseason. On the flip side, MU projects to have 11 women on the roster already, and how many do you really need to have a basketball team? You’re just not going to go 12 deep every night, y’know? It’s worth monitoring going forward, and Consuegra’s solution might just be “no seniors in 2027-28.”
