If his name rings a bell, hats off to you! He was on the Bucks’ Summer League squad this year, with one brief appearance across the slate. Here’s what our own Riley Feldmann had to say about him in his intrepid, deep, and comprehensive review of the Bucks’ Summer League roster:
Lewis joins the Bucks out of the prep organization Overtime Elite (best known for the twins Ausar and Amen Thompson who were both first-round picks in 2023). I can’t really make heads or tails of what the group does, besides pay high school kids to enroll in their private school/pseudo-professionalized AAU basketball program?. Anyways, he was regarded as a top prospect for his age group a few years ago, but his time in OTE didn’t really pan out; his stats reflect that (career averages of 6.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 39% FG%). There’s a fascinating article from &scape on Lewis that I encourage you to read for some more background. Of all the Bucks Summer League players, he’s about as much of a wild card as AJ Johnson. Should be interesting if he can get a few minutes and if a more subdued environment benefits him.
The first if proved prescient, as a few minutes was all he got.
Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but the Bucks will likely waive Lewis almost immediately, a piece of chicanery that would make him eligible for a little extra dough if he doesn’t get bored of Oshkosh. Still, the Bucks must have seen enough to like in his time with them this summer. Given that he was born in 2005 (!), the Herd would be a place for Lewis to develop, and ideally a better one than whatever OTE is like these days.
Welcome, Jalen!
UPDATE: as expected, Lewis has been waived, per the NBA’s official transactions log.
