Just over a month before training camp, most NBA teams have their roster set in stone for the 2024-25 season. There were a few major moves that took place in the offseason. This includes blockbuster signings like Paul George to the Philadelphia 76ers and Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks. Additionally, there were a lot of trades that occurred, with the biggest arguably being the trade that saw the Brooklyn Nets trade Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks. While many teams made trades to improve their roster for next season, there are still a few teams who stayed away from the trade market entirely, More specifically, four NBA teams have yet to make a trade this summer–the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Lakers.
The 4 NBA Teams Who Have Not Made a Trade This Offseason
Boston Celtics
The Celtics are the reigning champions and had little reason to switch up their team. During the offseason, Boston kept nearly every player from last year’s championship team on the roster. They re-signed Luke Kornet, Neemias Queta, and Xavier Tillman. Additionally, the Celtics handed out contract extensions to Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, and Sam Hauser. The only losses the team suffered on the roster were Svi Mykhailiuk and Oshae Brissett. Mykhailiuk signed with the Utah Jazz, ending his Celtics tenure after one season. Brissett remains unsigned, but following the Celtics’ recent signing of guard Lonnie Walker IV, it seems unlikely the team will bring him back.
Regardless of not making a single trade this summer, the Celtics remain the team to beat in the NBA.
Milwaukee Bucks
One year after acquiring Damian Lillard in a blockbuster trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, the Bucks have remained quiet on that front this year. Still, the team made enough moves in free agency to keep them competitive in the Eastern Conference. This summer, the Bucks signed Gary Trent Jr., Delon Wright, and Taurean Prince. On the flip side, they lost Malik Beasley and Patrick Beverley.
In their first full year with head coach Doc Rivers at the helm, the Bucks are looking to prove they are still a threat to win the NBA Finals.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have had a quiet offseason so far. In addition to making no trades, they only have two new faces in the organization. This includes rookies Luke Travers, who the team recently signed to a two-way contract, and Jaylon Tyson. However, the Cavaliers did extend their main core of Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen this summer.
Los Angeles Lakers
Of all the teams on this list, the Lakers are probably the most surprising. Of course, they made their big splash of the offseason by re-signing LeBron James to a two-year contract. Additionally, they drafted his son, Bronny James, and Dalton Knecht earlier this year. However, the Lakers made few moves outside of that. They have not made any trades, and outside of rookies, they have not signed anybody either. Regardless, the Lakers made the playoffs last season and should remain legitimate contenders with James and Anthony Davis on the team.
This upcoming season will be JJ Redick‘s first as their head coach. Running mostly with the same team from last year, the Lakers will certainly be in the playoff picture once again.
