Giannis pours in 28 points while Dame drops 27 points
In dominant fashion, the Milwaukee Bucks handled the Detroit Pistons with ease, 128-107. They remain undefeated in the NBA Cup and have won their group.
A hot start from Damian Lillard quickly evaporated following a Detroit 8-0 run in which they capitalized on a handful of Bucks turnovers. However, Giannis Antetokounmpo soon began to get in the fun, chipping in nine points to reinforce Lillard’s 12. That propelled Milwaukee to a 36-31 advantage after the first period.
The 3-point shooting blossomed in the second quarter for Milwaukee. Bobby Portis, Gary Trent Jr., and AJ Green each sank a pair of threes off the bench, continuing a theme of hot shooting for the Bucks. At half, they had connected on 15/21 threes, sailing out to a 78-59 lead.
Doc Rivers called Giannis’ number early on in the third and Giannis provided immediate production. He was going nuts in the third quarter, helping the Bucks reach the century mark with six minutes left in the third quarter. Yes, you read that correctly. The Pistons never made it close in the period and Milwaukee held an exclaiming 110-88 lead going into the fourth.
Things remained simple throughout the fourth for the Bucks. The 3-point disparity made it impossible for Detroit to even think about getting back. The Bucks then put the final touches on a 128-107 victory.
Stat That Stood Out
The first-half really set the tone for Milwaukee in this one. Blistering hot shooting launched the Bucks in front during the second quarter. At the break, they had connected on 15 threes, the most the team has made in any half this year. Additionally, their 78 first-half points were the most in a half. It was the prettiest half of basketball that the team has put forth and it slammed the door on any signs of life from a feisty Pistons team. To put the cherry on top, the Bucks created a new season-high in 3-pointers with 23 on the night.
