NBA: Boston Celtics at Milwaukee Bucks

Milwaukee unable to win despite 43 points from Giannis

In another excruciating finish, the Milwaukee Bucks fell at home to the Boston Celtics in a Sunday matinee, 113-107.

NBA.com Box Score

The 3-point ball was dropping right out of the gates for the Bucks, as they connected on a perfect 4-of-4 to kick this one off. A 16-2 run forced Boston to immediately call a timeout. Boston would add some firepower off the bench, but heading into the second quarter, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 19 points helped Milwaukee maintain a 40-30 advantage transitioning into the second.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but Payton Pritchard caught fire in the second quarter. He’d erupt for 17 points in the first half, frustrating the Bucks from 3-point land with five threes. However, Antetokounmpo secured 27 first-half points, catapulting Milwaukee to the locker room with a 69-58 halftime lead.

A flurry of mistakes and poor decision-making wiped out the Bucks’ double-digit intermission lead, as Boston overtook the lead in just a matter of minutes. Going into the fourth, every Celtics starter outside of Al Horford had crossed the double-digit point total. To close the period out, Jayson Tatum sank several free throws following a Bobby Portis foul on a 3-point attempt. That gave Boston a slim 87-84 lead heading into the final quarter of regulation.

Both teams were scratching and clawing at one another throughout the fourth in a back-and-forth finish. In the end, the 3-point shooting from the Celtics allowed them to prevail, with clutch shots from Jayson Tatum and Derrick White. They’d escape Fiserv Forum with a 113-107 victory.

Stat That Stood Out

Payton Pritchard continued his ways and was an absolute Bucks killer in this one. Despite not inflicting much damage in the second quarter, his presence disrupted the game in a negative way for Milwaukee early on. He continued his 3-point shooting display in quite the effective manner, dropping five threes on the afternoon. He keeps stringing together impressive performances in his 6MOY campaign and continued being an absolute menace against the Bucks.
