He is a wing.
Taurean Prince. Hmm…
My “Hmm…” is only partly due to the facts that (1) Taurean Prince is a new Buck and (2) my knowledge of the rest of the Association is mediocre. As I wrote earlier this month, of all of the Bucks’ recent acquisitions, Prince’s ride across teams has been the most variable (compared to Gary Trent Jr. and Delon Wright), creating uncertainty over which version of Prince will arrive in Milwaukee.
Offensively, the hope is that Prince can be a solid option from deep. His career numbers suggest as much, and three-point-shooting has become a larger portion of his shot diet over time.
Defensively, the hope is that Prince can be a solid option on the wing. His history is good but not great, which should be more than fine with the presence of Brook and Giannis down low. Moreover, he also offers some relative advantage here in terms of relative youthful athleticism.
Rebounding is another story. Although his rebounding has oscillated over time, it cratered in Los Angeles. Prince’s (in)ability on the boards is especially concerning next to players like Brook and Bobby who do not have the stickiest hands (although Brook does a better job boxing out).
I’ll be curious to watch how Darvin Ham’s homecoming affects Prince’s role with the team. As profiled here, Ham stuck with Prince at the expense of younger Lakers. That sounds like music to Doc’s ears, which should bode well for Prince to have the chance to establish himself at the low end of the playoff rotation.
Ultimately, Prince projects as a solid 3-and-D player who fits well with the Bucks on paper. We’ll see what happens on the court.
Let me know your thoughts on how he’ll stack up in the Bucks playoff rotation:
And let’s find out who will be 7th on this year’s list!
