The Gulf Coast was struck by a historic winter storm on Tuesday that brought roughly 9.5 inches of snow to New Orleans. It left the NBA with no choice but to make some tweaks to this Wednesday’s schedule.
The Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans were scheduled to square off this evening at the Smoothie King Center. This game has been postponed though due to the conditions in the Big Easy. Several roads are closed off right now since it’s too icy.
“The National Basketball Association game scheduled for tonight between the Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans at Smoothie King Center has been postponed due to extreme weather conditions in the New Orleans area,” the league said. “The date for the rescheduled game will be announced at a later time.”
Unfortunately for the Bucks, there’s legitimate concern that Thursday’s game against the Miami Heat could be postponed as well. That’s because they might be stranded in New Orleans until further notice.
“Milwaukee is scheduled to host Miami on Thursday and there’s concern on if the team will be able to depart New Orleans in time for the game,” NBA insider Chris Haynes said.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but there’s a possibility the Bucks will be sidelined until Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The NBA isn’t the only sports league being impacted by this rare storm in New Orleans.
On Tuesday, the New Orleans Saints had to reschedule head-coaching interviews because they can’t fly coaches in and out of the city. It’s unclear when they’ll resume their search.
All we can hope for right now is that everyone in the south stays safe.
