Something about this place feels familiar
In the penultimate game of this road trip, the Milwaukee Bucks face the Phoenix Suns in the Valley, a place near and “deer” to Bucks fans’ hearts. The Bucks will also face old friend and championship-winning coach Mike Budenholzer for the first time since he was let go by the org. Tonight’s game will be the first time the two teams have played this season, with the next matchup coming seven nights from now.
Where We’re At
The Bucks have righted the ship after losing their opening game of the trip against the Golden State Warriors, beating the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings. Both wins came without the services of Damian Lillard, who (spoiler alert) is out again tonight as he deals with this calf complaint. The Bucks will need to avoid a sputtering offence like they did in the first half against the Kings.
To say it has been a crazy season in Phoenix would be the understatement of the year. There has been a considerable amount of losing and internal turmoil, but of course, the Bucks catch them having won four of their last five, including their latest W over the Cleveland Cavaliers. From what I personally have seen on social media from Suns writers, it appears the recent absence of Bradley Beal may actually be helping this team, not hurting it—for whatever that’s worth.
Injury Report
Exact same report as the last few games for the Bucks: Damian Lillard (right calf soreness), Bobby Portis (league suspension), and Jericho Sims (right thumb UCL sprain) are all out. Giannis (right patella tendinopathy) and Gary Trent Jr. (left patella tendinopathy) are probable.
For the Suns, Bradley Beal (left hamstring strain) is out. Mason Plumlee (left quad strain) and Nick Richards (right calf tightness) are both probable.
Player To Watch
Kevin Durant is coming off a 42-point game where he shot 17/29 and 4/9 from three. I would imagine Giannis gets that assignment, and he’ll have to use all his height and length to bother KD.
