Hoping to end the losing streak
Happy Halloween! The Milwaukee Bucks will attempt to spook the Memphis Grizzlies into taking poor shots. Milwaukee hopes to get a treat to snap its three-game losing streak, while Memphis will look to trick the Bucks into a false sense of security. This game should give fans a chance to look past the ghost of the past week and bury the defensive skeletons displayed in the second half of games.
Where We’re At
Milwaukee has not had the best of starts to the 2024–25 season. After defeating the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee has lost its last three games. Losing to the Celtics last Monday was expected, but we saw encouraging signs of what this team can do, which gave the Celtics a difficult time. The losses to the Bulls and Nets were more frustrating as these are teams you would expect the Bucks to beat, and fans are scrambling, wondering what the main issues are and what the solution is. Maybe Giannis has to alter his approach on the offensive side, or Milwaukee could improve their defense and execution in the second half, primarily in the third quarter. Ultimately, the Bucks will need to bring an intensity and focus that we have only seen glimpses of.
Memphis had a difficult season last year. Injury severely impacted them as they lost Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr. for long stretches of the season. This team finished in the top three in the Western Conference two years ago, so the talent is there. This season has been a mixed bag for the Grizzlies; the team is 2-3, but Memphis’ second halves are as bad as Milwaukee’s. The Grizzlies have seen leads evaporate or be cut to single digits, so it’s possible that Milwaukee might not need to panic if they find themselves trailing. They lost at home to the pesky (at least in the early goings this season) Nets last night.
Injury Report
Milwaukee will not have Khris Middleton as he rehabs his ankle. AJ Johnson, Stanley Umude, and Chris Livingston will also be on G League assignment and will not be with the Bucks tonight.
While Memphis doesn’t have their official injury report out yet as they’re on a SEGABABA, last night GG Jackson (right metatarsal repair) and Luke Kennard (left foot muscle strain) were out, while Ja Morant and Zach Edey were questionable but started.
Player To Watch
Zach Edey was a dominant player during his time at Purdue. As a Badger fan, seeing any semblance of contact lead to him going to the free-throw line was annoying. It will be interesting to see how he fully adjusts to the pros and matches up with players about the same size as him. Will he guard Brook Lopez, which could drag him out to the perimeter, or will he guard Giannis and be able to cope with his speed?
