Can the Bucks slow down the streaking Rockets?
The Milwaukee Bucks will face just their second Western Conference opponent of the season tonight as they do battle with the in-form Houston Rockets. The Bucks split the season series with the Rockets last year, with both teams winning on their home court.
Where We’re At
After consecutive wins against the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee dropped its last game against the Charlotte Hornets following an incorrect whistle in the final seconds. Although the wins haven’t come, a look under the hood of the Bucks is showing some positive signs. For example, they have the ninth-best defensive rating in November. Sidenote: Doc Rivers did end up getting fined for his postgame comments criticising the referees:
NBA is about that Sunday Fine life:
NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2024 – Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of the officiating, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.
On the other hand, Houston could not be entering this game in better form, winners of their last five games and owners of a 10-4 record. In their last three games, they beat the LA Clippers twice in a row and completely dismantled the Chicago Bulls last night, 143-107—catch that recap here. It has been a team effort from the Rockets, with their core of Jalen Green, Fred VanVleet, Alperen Şengün, and Jabari Smith Jr. leading the way.
Injury Report
Milwaukee’s injury report is starting to look better, with Damian Lillard upgraded to probable (concussion protocol). Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to be listed as probable (right patella tendinopathy). Conversely, Ryan Rollins will miss again (left shoulder instability), and Khris Middelton will remain out as he recovers from bilateral ankle surgery.
Having played last night, Houston is not required to submit an injury report until 1:00 PM Central, and this post will be updated when they do so.
Player To Watch
Tough to single out one player for the Rockets, who really do win by committee, but let’s spotlight Jabari Smith Jr. Smith was struggling to start the season but exploded for 28 points recently against the Clippers. He’ll play a key role in trying to lure Giannis out of the paint and create driving lanes for Houston’s athletes.
