Bucks get their first look at Jimmy Butler after the trade
The Milwaukee Bucks will return to the court today against the Golden State Warriors, after getting a resounding win for Hubie Brown against the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday. This will not only be the first time that the Bucks play the Warriors this season, but it will be their first look against the re-made Warriors with Jimmy Butler as Steph Curry’s new co-star. As for last year, the two sides split the season series 1-1, with each home team taking the victory.
Where We’re At
Yesterday was about as big a shot in the arm as the Milwaukee Bucks could have asked for. After blowing a 21-point lead to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, the Bucks got a big win on national TV in front of the legend and former Bucks assistant coach Hubie Brown. While the final score says the Bucks won by eight, 135-127, the game wasn’t that close in the second half, with Milwaukee leading Philly by as much as 25 points. Damian Lillard had a vintage game, with 43 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Kyle Kuzma had a solid game in his first appearance as a Buck at home, with 13 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Before the NBA trade deadline, the Warriors had been playing .500 ball, going 3-3 in their previous six games. That run of form put them 9th in the West and game behind the Dallas Mavericks for 8th, firmly in the play-in race. In hopes of gaining some distance from some of the other play-in teams, the Warriors traded a package centered around Andrew Wiggins to the Miami Heat for Jimmy Butler. Butler made his Warriors debut against the team that drafted him in the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. Things didn’t start the best, with the Warriors trailing 69-55 at halftime. Golden State flipped the switch in the second half and outscored Chicago 77-42, en route to a 132-111 win. The new dynamic duo combined for 59 points in their first game together.
Injury Report
The Bucks’ injury report will come out closer to 1:00 p.m. CST because this is the second game of a back-to-back.
The Warriors, on the other hand, have theirs submitted. Two-time league MVP Steph Curry is listed as questionable with left quad soreness. Fourth-year wing Jonathan Kuminga will miss this one with a right ankle sprain.
