Two NBA Cup quarterfinalists square off
Fresh off a win last night against the Detroit Pistons, the Bucks look to roll on and face the Atlanta Hawks in Milwaukee. The Bucks are the hottest team in the league, but Atlanta has proven to be a challenge.
Where We’re At
The Bucks are still winning games, clinching their group in last night’s NBA Cup win against the Pistons. This win extended Milwaukee’s winning streak to seven, and they’re winners of nine of their last ten games. As discussed on Deer Diaries: A Milwaukee Bucks Podcast, the play has stemmed from various factors, most notably the play of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, while the supporting cast has carried their weight as well. Ball movement, three-point shooting, and stout defense have been prevalent during the winning streak.
The Hawks have been ebbing and flowing; they have won four in a row, including a pair of double-digit wins last week against the Cavaliers. The Hawks fly around, playing at a high tempo led by Trae Young and various athletic wings and guards, including Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, De’Andre Hunter, and rookie Zaccharie Risacher. Atlanta has posted a high assist-to-turnover ratio and assist percentage in the last five games, ranking third and fourth, respectively.
Injury Report
Since Milwaukee played last night, they have until 1 PM to submit their injury report. But it’s assumed that Khris Middleton and perhaps MarJon Beauchamp, who was a late scratch last night, will be out. For the Hawks, Trae Young is probable and Cody Zeller will be out as he is not with the team.
UPDATE: Middleton and Beauchamp are indeed out, plus so is Chris Livingston with an ankle sprain. Giannis is probable while both Tyler Smith and AJ Johnson are on G League assignment.
Player To Watch
As Khris Middleton inches closer to a return, Taureen Prince will want to continue to make the case to stay in the starting lineup. After an injury scare, Prince had a strong performance last night, shooting 4/4 from three and maintaining a high standard. Prince will be in the rotation but will want to keep all his current minutes.
