Both teams return to the court after a busy deadline day yesterday
The Milwaukee Bucks will play their final game of this three-game road trip against the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena. This will be the first game for both sides after the trade deadline, and both teams were very active before and on deadline day. The last time these two teams met was in the NBA Cup semi-finals in December when the Bucks defeated the Hawks by eight on their way to an NBA Cup championship.
Where We’re At
It has been a very emotional past couple of days in the Bucks fandom. They said goodbye to franchise icon Khris Middleton, who was traded to the Washington Wizards (the trade was finalized and announced last night). The team got back on the right track after losing four in a row, beating the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. Damian Lillard had a spectacular 29-point and 12-assist double-double, while Bobby Portis put up 23 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists in the win after they came back to the lineup.
As rough as it has been for the Bucks this last stretch of games, it hasn’t been much better for the Atlanta Hawks. After beating the defending champion Boston Celtics on January 18, they were three games over .500 with a 22-19 record. They have since gone 1-9 over their last 10, including eight straight after beating Boston. Then Jalen Johnson went down after their game against the Houston Rockets on January 28 and it’s been downhill since. They did get a two-point win over the Detroit Pistons on Monday but followed it with a loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the debut of De’Aaron Fox on Wednesday, 126-125.
Injury Report
Brook Lopez (left knee contusion) and Lillard (left groin soreness) are probable, while Giannis is questionable with left calf tightness.
On Atlanta’s side of things, Clint Capela will be out for personal reasons, as will young sensation Jalen Johnson after he had surgery on his left shoulder. Trae Young is probable while dealing with right Achilles tendonitis.
Player To Watch
It’s always going to be a tough day at the office for the Bucks guards when Dyson Daniels is on the floor for the Hawks. While he’s only scored a total of 20 points in his two previous meetings against the Bucks this season, he’s averaging two steals per game, along with five rebounds and 5.5 assists.
