With the NBA Trade Deadline just days away, many rosters around the league may be in line for a major change. So far, we have already seen Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis, De’Aaron Fox, and Zach LaVine change teams. And now, the Milwaukee Bucks reportedly have interest in getting in on the action ahead of the trade deadline. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer (subscription required), the Bucks have shown interest in trading for Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma.
“Yet there has been little fresh chatter on Milwaukee’s pursuit of Butler in recent days. Sources with knowledge of the situation have relayed that the Bucks have more recently had conversations about pursuing Washington’s Kyle Kuzma,” Fischer wrote.
Milwaukee Bucks Have Shown Interest in Kyle Kuzma Trade
Kyle Kuzma’s Season So Far
The former Los Angeles Lakers champion is now in his fourth season in Washington. However, he is in a bit of a down year. Through 31 games, the 29-year-old is averaging 15 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. Furthermore, he is shooting 42.2% from the field and 28.6% from the three-point line. So far, this is easily the worst statistical season of his Wizards career. However, the Wizards as a team have not been much better.
Washington is 7-41 and has the worst record in the league. They also statistically rank as the worst offense and defensive team in the league. Furthermore, the Wizards’ -14.6 net rating currently ranks as the third-worst in NBA history. There is still a lot of basketball left to be played. However, it is difficult to imagine that the Wizards do not finish as the worst team in the league at the end of the season.
Kyle Kuzma Is Officially On the Trade Block
In December, NBA insider Marc Stein (subscription required), reported that the Wizards were “eager to find a trade partner for Kuzma.”
“The rising belief leaguewide is that the Wizards are eager to find a trade partner for Kuzma at some point during the next six-plus weeks … and that Kuzma would want to depart this time with the 4-22 Wizards scarcely even trying to be competitive heading into the loaded 2025 NBA Draft.”
This has yet to come to fruition, but it seems like a legitimate possibility, whether it involves the Bucks or not.
The Last Word On the Milwaukee Bucks
Kuzma would provide additional scoring alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo if he were to get traded to Milwaukee. However, he is only in the second year of his four-year, $90 million contract. Naturally, there is a lot of risk involved in a potential trade for Kuzma.
Despite a slow start to the season, the Bucks have turned things around. They are 26-21 and currently own the No. 5 seed in the East. Though the Bucks are in the midst of a three-game losing streak, there is still a lot to like about the team. The Bucks have not made it back to the conference finals since their championship win in 2021. As they look to get over that hump, acquiring Kuzma could be a legitimate option for Milwaukee.
