Fans will only need to wait a few weeks to see their newest Bucks take the floor
Good news for the true basketball sickos among us: The Milwaukee Bucks’s 2024 NBA Summer League schedule just dropped. Over to Eric Nehm!
2024 Bucks Summer League Schedule:
– Bucks vs. Bulls: Sat, July 13, 3:30 p.m. CT
– Bucks vs. Cavaliers: Sun, July 14, 2:30 p.m. CT
– Bucks vs. Clippers: Tues, July 16, 9:00 p.m. CT
– Bucks vs. Suns: Fri, July 19, 3:00 p.m. CT— Eric Nehm (@eric_nehm) June 28, 2024
This will be the first opportunity for new draft picks AJ Johnson and Tyler Smith to don a Bucks uniform to show what they’ve got — especially important for a guy like Johnson who has almost next to no film for fans to go off of. You should also expect to see Andre Jackson Jr. and Chris Livingston as well, at minimum, and possibly MarJon Beauchamp or AJ Green too (although a third Summer League campaign is normally construed as a red flag for player progress).
Vin Baker led the Bucks Summer League contingent in 2022 while Adrian Griffin took the reins in 2023 shortly after being hired as head coach. The odds that Doc Rivers will take on lead coaching duties are pretty low, so expect anyone from Darvin Ham to Baker to get the nod in his stead. Meanwhile, the roster will slowly get built out with undrafted free agents, guys from abroad looking to exhibit their skills, and possibly a few Herd guys as well, most with the intention of fighting for a training camp spot or G-League roster slot somewhere in the league. We’ll update with names as they become public.
Summer League is broken into a phase of “regular season” games against four opponents before seeding each team into a playoff bracket on the way to a Summer League title. The team went 2-3 last year, not that that means much. It’ll be fun to watch the first game or two since it’ll feature something new, and then gradually degrade into the weirdest exhibition ball you’ve ever seen.
Feel the excitement!
