Wedding bells are in the air for Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma and longtime girlfriend Winnie Harlow.
The couple have been dating for a few years now, and Kuzma used the recent NBA All-Star break as his opportunity to pop the question. According to Vogue, Kuzma ushered Harlow off to a romantic getaway in Turks and Caicos last Thursday, which the 30-year-old Canadian model assumed was simply in honor of Valentine’s Day. Even after Kuzma brought Harlow on board a private plane filled with chocolates, flowers and champagne, she wasn’t expecting a proposal.
However, Kuzma then brought out a poem he had written for Harlow and began to read it, the first sign that something was up.
“For a split second in my head I thought, This would be so cute if this was an engagement,” Harlow admitted. “But I’m also not the type of person who wants to guess or wants to spoil a surprise. So it just was a fleeting thought in my head.”
She didn’t realize for sure what was going on until Kuzma got to the last line–“Will you be my wife?”–and pulled out an 8.5 carat diamond ring.
Following the proposal itself, Harlow’s family surprised her at the couple’s villa. They officially announced their engagement publicly on Tuesday.
“We’re over the moon,” Harlow said.
Kuzma, who is in his eighth NBA season and won a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, was recently traded from the Wizards to the Bucks before the NBA trade deadline. The move gives the veteran forward the chance to go from the league’s worst team to one that can potentially make noise in the Eastern Conference.
Harlow first burst onto the scene as a contestant on “America’s Next Top Model” in 2014. Over the years, she has appeared in ad campaigns for high-end brands such as Fendi, Swarovski, Nike, Puma, MAC and Sprite and in 2018 became the first model with vitiligo to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Congratulations, Kyle and Winnie!
