Greece securing a spot in EuroBasket 2025 has likely determined Giannis Antetokounmpo’s summer plans. The Milwaukee Bucks star is set to represent his national team once again, marking another chapter in his international career.

Greece’s Road to Qualification
Greece clinched their EuroBasket 2025 qualification with a 93-89 overtime victory against the Czech Republic, improving to a 5-1 record in their group. Despite missing several key players due to EuroLeague commitments, Greece topped the standings ahead of Great Britain, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.
Greece’s head coach and European basketball legend, Vassilis Spanoulis, guided the team once again through a successful campaign, setting the stage for a competitive tournament this summer.
Giannis’ Commitment to Greece
Spanoulis emphasized that Giannis’ commitment reflects his strong bond with the team and his motivation to help Greece compete for a medal.
“This is about what we build in the summer, our relationship. Not just me and Giannis, but between him and the rest of the players. How much he enjoyed our journey from the Olympic Qualifying Tournament to the Olympic Games, and that he really desires and is motivated to play this summer,” noted Spanoulis.
Giannis himself echoed this sentiment during the NBA All-Star Weekend. In an interview with COSMOTE TV, he said, “If I’m healthy, I’ll be there. I thought we could have won a medal two years ago in EuroBasket, but we had to play Germany twice, which is a great team. We will do our best, coach Spanoulis will create a strong squad, and we’ll put in the effort.”
What This Means for Giannis and the Bucks
With the EuroBasket taking place from August 27 to September 14, 2025, Giannis will have a busy offseason balancing national team duties and preparations for the 2025-26 NBA season. While his participation is a significant boost for Greece, it also raises questions about his workload, especially considering the Bucks’ long-term championship aspirations.
Giannis has always been passionate about representing Greece on the international stage. After falling short of a medal in the 2022 EuroBasket and 2024 Olympics, he’ll be determined to lead the team deep into the tournament. However, health remains the biggest factor in his participation. If he stays injury-free, Greece will have one of the most dominant players in the world at their disposal.
Giannis’ and Greece’s EuroBasket Hopes
Greece has a storied history in EuroBasket, winning the tournament in 1987 and 2005. However, recent tournaments have seen the team fall short of expectations. Their last deep run ended in a quarterfinal loss to Germany in 2022. With Giannis in peak form and a supporting cast that could include veterans Nick Calathes and Kostas Papanikolaou and other promising talents, Greece will aim to return to the medal conversation.
For Bucks fans, Giannis’ summer plans mean another stretch of high-level competition before returning to Milwaukee. While his participation in EuroBasket will provide valuable experience and help him stay in top shape, it will also be crucial for him to manage his workload to avoid fatigue heading into the new NBA season.
