Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley was already a polarizing player due to his antics on the court. Well, on Thursday night, he lost a lot of fans due to his behavior in the locker room.
After the Bucks were eliminated from the playoffs, Beverley told ESPN producer Malinda Adams that he wouldn’t field any questions from her because she’s not subscribed to his podcast.
Unfortunately, we’re not kidding.
“Can you move that mic and get out of the circle for me please, mam? If you’re not subscribed to my pod? Thank you, I appreciate that,” Beverley told Adams in a rude tone.
Naturally, this exchange between Adams and Beverley went viral. Just about every media member in the world is criticizing the veteran point guard for being so rude.
Channing Frye said, “For everyone seeing this. It’s not cool or respectful at all. There needs to be a huge apology.”
“One thing we DO NOT tolerate is clown behavior … especially when directed at one of the best producers sports journalism — and ESPN — has ever seen,” Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN said. “Gtfoh. Shouldn’t have been pulling that weak [expletive] with local media either.”
“Veteran producer Malinda Adams happens to be one of the most respected and professional people we have at ESPN,” Brian Windhorst said. “Bev, you’re going to have to make a couple apologies for stuff tonight.”
Jemele Hill, meanwhile, referred to Beverley’s antics as “clown behavior.”
Beverley owes Adams an apology, regardless of what he thinks is right or wrong.
We get that athletes are frustrated after a playoff loss, but to basically make someone feel unwanted because they’re not subscribed to your podcast is just lame.
