The Milwaukee Bucks appear to have dodged a bullet regarding superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo dropped to the floor with a non-contact left leg injury during the third quarter of Tuesday’s win over the Boston Celtics. Teammates had to help the two-time MVP off the court, and immediately, many began to fear the worst.
The Bucks called the injury a calf strain. Fortunately, despite head coach Doc Rivers’ concern being “high” after the game, Antetokounmpo has avoided an Achilles tear, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
“After an MRI, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s left Achilles tendon is fully intact and his return to play will come with how quickly his left calf strain heals,” Wojnarowski tweeted Wednesday morning.
Currently, Milwaukee is 48-31 with three games remaining, one game ahead of the New York Knicks for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Bucks had lost four straight games going into last night, but six players scored in double-figures, led by Patrick Beverley’s 20 points, to secure a much-needed 104-91 win over Boston.
Milwaukee will close out the regular season with a road trip against the Oklahoma City Thunder sandwiched between a home-and-home against the Orlando Magic.
It seems unlikely we’d see Antetokounmpo in any of those three games, but perhaps he’ll be ready to go when the playoffs start on April 20.
